UEH-CELG is delighted to announce the highly anticipated visit of Professor Mindy Chen-Wishart from the prestigious University of Oxford. From November 16th to November 18th, Professor Chen-Wishart will grace our campus, engage with various stakeholders, and enrich our academic community with her unparalleled expertise.
Mindy Chen-Wishart is an Emeritus Professor of the Law of Contract at Oxford University and an Emeritus Fellow in Law at Merton College and was the Dean of the Faculty of Law until 30 September 2023.
She was formerly a Senior Lecturer at Otago University in New Zealand and a Rhodes Visiting Research Fellow at St. Hilda’s College. She has taught Contract, Restitution, Torts and Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Consumer Protection Law and Introduction to Law. She is involved in graduate teaching in Philosophical Foundations of the Common Law and Private Law and Fundamental Rights.
She is author of Contract Law (7th edition), an editor of Chitty on Contracts (currently in its 35th edition), is co-editing a Handbook on Contract Theory, and is leading a series titled Studies in the Contract Laws of Asia, published with OUP; volumes I-IV are published. She has held Visiting Professorships in Asia, Australasia and Europe. She delivered the Fourth Annual International and Comparative Quarterly Lecture as author of the best paper in 2013. She has also lectured to the Judicial College in the UK, Hong Kong and Taiwan. She is Provost’s Professor at the National University of Singapore.

Open to all students and faculty members, this lecture will delve into the intricacies of contract law, exploring its practical applications and theoretical underpinnings. Attendees can anticipate gaining invaluable insights from Professor Chen-Wishart, a distinguished expert in the field from the University of Oxford.
Furthermore, on the morning of 17th November, Professor Chen-Wishart will engage with UEH students in an inspiring session dedicated to legal education. This interactive meeting will provide students with a unique opportunity to learn from Professor Chen-Wishart’s experiences, guidance, and advice. Her visit is expected to ignite a passion for legal education among students, fostering a deeper understanding of the field and its potential impact.
